Emi Tokutomi

Emi Tokutomi started playing violin in Japan in 1987 and studied VCE
Music Performance at Ballarat High School. During that time she joined
The Ballarat Symphony Orchestra. Emi completed her tertiary studies at
Melbourne University, including Bachelor of Music (Instrumental
Teaching Stream), and Graduate Diploma in Education majoring in
Instrumental Music, Music in Classroom and Japanese. Since graduating
from University, she has enjoyed playing as a member of The Whitehorse
Orchestra.
Emi has taught violin since 2003, individually and in groups.
Currently, she only teaches at Whitehorse Music and St Francis Xavier
Primary School in Ballarat East.
Her method is mainly based on Suzuki and AMEB, however she likes
various musical styles other than classical music, including folk and
movie themes.
Emi is interested in learning new instruments, and through her
experience learning different instruments, she believes that anyone can
play violin, even though it appears to be one of the more difficult
instruments and that it is definitely possible to acquire new skills as
long as you keep working at it. Her current students are aged between 9
and 80 and all enjoy working towards their various musical goals.
